Mental Health and Fitness

So, lets talk for a minute about mental health…

Every single person will go through an experience in their lifetime when their mental health will be challenged. In today’s society we still find this subject hard to talk about. Each and every one of us will experience a death, job loss, divorce, relocation, etc. All of which can have severe effects on our mental health. During times like these; a good support group along with a long list of other factors can have a dramatic affect that any type of stress has on our mental health. However, the fact still remains that regular exercise plays a major key role in restoring and maintaining sound mental health.

Any health and wellness expert will tell you that daily exercise should be as routine as showering, brushing your teeth and even eating. Our bodies were meant to move and be active.

But lets take it one step further with that thought. What about the affect that exercise has on our minds? When we engage in exercise our bodies release endorphins which trigger a positive feeling in the body. Endorphins also act as analgesics which can diminish the perception of pain. Scientific research has shown that regular exercise can reduce stress, ward off anxiety and depression, boost self-esteem, and improve sleep. When making better choices for your physical health, one is more likely to in turn make better choices for their mental health. One example is that some people reported finding the courage to walk away from toxic relationships they had been dealing with in their lives.

Exercise isn’t just good for the body, but also the mind and soul.

So, what type of exercise? Any type really! When it comes to exercise as a form of therapy, it’s safe to say…it’s ALL good.

Those of us here at TuffWraps would like to remind you though, it may not be the first form of exercise that comes to mind when in need of therapy, but resistance training just might be at the top of our list. Slow and controlled moving some serious weight can be very therapeutic. Don’t forget to wrap up those wrists though.

Never be afraid to reach out for help when dealing with mental health issues, and as always, stay TUFF!
